WHAT WE DO

Our main work is the vineyard. We cultivate about 3 hectares within the municipality of Berbenno di Valtellina, in the province of Sondrio. All the land we work has been given to us on free loan by small local growers. Since 2013 we have gradually recovered it, repairing the dry stone walls, replacing poles and wires, replanting new vines. We believe it is important to recover and maintain the historic territory from which Valtellina viticulture originates, as a form of respect for the past generations who created them with effort and passion and as a sign for future generations to whom they will remain as a legacy. These feelings of commitment and gratitude inspire all our work, pushing us to move forward with enthusiasm.
In addition to the vineyards, we also have a small stable with a dozen dairy cows and some land where we grow corn and potatoes. We do gardening work, vegetable gardens, cleaning and cutting woods, rebuilding dry stone walls. In 2016 we took over some old apple orchards in Villa di Tirano and in September we produce natural apple juice.
In the summer we load the "Alpe Lago" mountain pasture under the Passo S. Marco, where we produce Grasso d'Alpe, ricotta and fresh goat cheese. In this period we also welcome young people, families and groups who have the desire and the will to live together for a few weeks or for the whole summer a simpler and more natural life.

"IN WINE.... VERITAS"

OUR WINE

Our wine is born from our care and passion. Thanks to a Guyot training system, each plant benefits from a leaf wall of about 1.5m2, allowing a smaller production in terms of quantity (about 40-60 quintals/hectare) but with healthier and better quality grapes that become the basis for producing our DOC and DOCG.
Three quarters of our vineyards are on terraces: the fact that viticulture here is something “heroic” is not just a figure of speech... We work almost exclusively by hand and there are few vineyards accessible to mechanical means. The average slope of the vineyards is around 30%, with a south-south/east exposure. The average altitude is between 300 and 600 metres above sea level. From 2013 to today, in addition to having recovered the old vines, we have planted more than 12,000 new seedlings of selected Nebbiolo clones for a total surface area of around one hectare. The remaining two hectares are made up of vines aged between 30 and 50 years. More than two hectares fall within the DOCG-Valtellina Superiore area. We do not use chemical weed killers except under the rows, keeping the vineyard as grassy as possible.
Until 2020, for the transformation of the grapes, we relied on important local wineries such as Nino Negri di Chiuro and Fondazione Fojanini. In 2022, we inaugurated a refinement cellar in an old stately home in Berbenno and in 2023, we finally set up our transformation cellar in the Caiolo area.

OUR LOGO

“The flower of VITA NOVA is formed by a single thread which is the thread of life.

It has a beginning and an end, it is generated by a single instinctive and natural trait, like a signature, on which grow the four petals of the recipe for life that Father Ugo De Censi, founder and soul of Operazione Mato Grosso (OMG), passed on to us, which inspires all our charitable work for the poorest and education for young people.

White is Silence, brown is Manual Work, green is Art and Nature while red is Giving, Knowing How to Lose.

This brand guarantees that the proceeds from the sale of these products will go entirely to the missions of Operation Mato Grosso in Latin America.”
