Perlegia 2020
WINE : Valtellina Superiore Docg 2020 Perlegia
This Valtellina Superiore is the result of Nebbiolo grapes harvested in crates, to have the grapes in the best conditions to be vinified. Our 3 hectares of vineyards located in the Berbenno-Maroggia area were entrusted to us for processing by elderly winemakers who no longer had the strength to work them.
GRAPES: 100% Chiavennasca, local denomination of Nebbiolo
THE VINEYARD: the vineyards are located in the Valtellina Superiore area at 300 - 400 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Rhaetian Alps, above Berbenno: Dosso Sant'Abbondio, Dalgia and Costiera di Polaggia, along the right bank of the Adda. They are vineyards exposed to the south, trained with the modified Guyot arch, in shallow sandy-silty soils with a loose texture. The grape yield is 80 quintals/hectare as required by the DOCG regulations.
VINIFICATION: the ripest and sugariest bunches, harvested from the beginning of October, are traditionally vinified "in red" with 12 days of maceration on the skins in the must; fermentation takes place at 28-30 °C
MATURATION: the wine remained 18 months in 50 hl Slavonian oak barrels and was refined for 4 months in the bottle before being released for sale.
THE WINE: ruby red color; well-pronounced and ethereal aroma with fine fragrance of small red fruits (strawberry, raspberry and currant) and with hints of black cherry jam. Dry flavor, rightly tannic, with elegant red plum background and good permanence in the mouth
Grape production/ha : approx. 40 quintals
Grape/wine yield : approx. 70%
Bottles produced : approx. 4000
